Inamo Restaurant in London brings a unique experience for their customers. An interactive table that is the menu at the same time. I guess they would loose a lot of time just for people to play and have fun with it.

Marvel Super Heroes 4D Movie At Madame Tussauds London

August 19, 2010 · Filed Under Attractions, destinations, Europe · Comment

marvel super heroes 4D movie

Marvel Super Heroes 4D for the comic and character fans is a new short 4D movie screening at Madame Tussauds in London. The movie was released on May 30th, and is part of the Madame Tussauds experience, included in your ticket price. The movie was quite fun with blowing air, water sprinkling, chair tingling, inside a large dome. Was a really pleasant experience, however short lived 9 minutes only. But cheer up your kids as they get a chance to take photos with model of Iron Man and few others before the show begins.

The down side is, you have to walk through the whole museum, pay the full ticket price to see the show. For us, the queue to enter alone was like 45 minutes! Was too crowded inside we struggled to pass through the crowd and reach the show for the kids. So if you’re planning on going there, arrange your visit, book online for %10 save value, and see if you want to group book for other attractions like London Eye and the Aquarium as well. This could be a saving by it self. Also, try to arrive early on a working day to enjoy more freedom. Don’t forget you can also find great London hotel rates here.

Capital Gate Abu Dhabi Hotel
(via People Daily)

The new (inclining) hotel in Abu Dhabi, Capital Gate, has entered the Guinness Book of Records being the world’s most inclined tower with a height of 160 meters that leans westward at 18 degrees, 14 degrees more than the 4 only Pisa in Italy. Ofcourse the beauty of the Pisa remains in it’s original uninteded incline, but this will definitely turn heads to UAE once more now. The project is expected to complete by end 2010.

Companies bidding for world tallest, 1 KM, Jeddah Kingdom Tower

April 8, 2010 · Filed Under Articles, Attractions, buildings, middle-east, News · 3 Comments

Tallest man-built construction in the world, Burj Khalifa, has not yet celebrated it’s first birthday, and haven’t even yet recovered from the public observation deck shutdown, and Jeddah is already expecting bids on it’s 1 KM tallest Kingdom Tower in the world project on April 14th. When completed, this will be more than 400 m taller than the Makkah Clock Tower opening this August, and over 150 m taller than the tallest Burj Khalifa building.

It’s the war of skyscrapers, and it’s costing a fortune.

Burj Khalifa – Dubai, tallest structure in the world

April 1, 2010 · Filed Under Articles, Attractions, buildings, middle-east, video · 1 Comment

When it comes to Guinness records in construction, very often you’re being chased, and will get left only second best, by Dubai. Their latest Burj Khalifa skycraper which opened in the 4th of January this year, is just another perfect example, setting up 14 world records, mostly related to heights. The construction which took 5 years to complete now resembles the tallest man-made structure ever built, rising up 828 m high, leaving Warsaw radio mast second with 646.38 m, and that’s not even for residential use.

The cost of this project alone is $1.5 billions, part of the $20 billion Downtown Dubai. Only in Dubai in such down time worldwide economic crisis would you see these spendings. Spendings that in March 2009 made office space of 1 sq ft cost $4,000, that’s $43,000 per square meter. Now when the project was still in construction, I used to ask my self how comfortable would I be living in a never tried before heights, how convenient would it be if I reach 800 m high, only to realize I forgot my laptop in the car. That’s a long ride isn’t it?

But that’s just me, and they probably have it figured out. And it’s not like I’ll be able to afford it anyhow. But with such prices, who can? How many would be able to, and how many would agree to make such an investment. Is there really a payback period for this project? Or is it meant as another symbol for Dubai like Burj Al-Arab? Remember we’re not adding up the maintenance cost here. Can you imagine the cost of just cleaning up these windows?

Apparently, it would take 36 workers three to four months to wash up the 24,348 windows of the building. Mind you these aren’t regular window washers, but rather ones with exceptional bravery for heights and strong winds.

The Observation Deck:

On January 5th, At The Top, third highest observation deck in the world, opened on the 124th floor, at a hight of 442 m, only to be closed to the public 3 days later, after a power supply failure locked tourists in the elevator for 45 minutes. Rumors spread about the reopening of the deck on February 14th, but apparently they are just that, rumors. So tourists don’t raise your hopes in getting anything more than a close look at the building from outside right now, or else you’ll end up like others.

Outside Burj Khalifa:

Outside the skycraper lays the the $217 million record fountain system called Dubai Fountain. The fountain is a masterpiece by it self (see video below). Also, Burj Khalifa park surrounds the building spreading across 27-acre, mimicing the core design concepts of the building it self, which is based on the desert flower, Hymenocallis.

Videos:

Something that beautiful can’t be described in words, and no, not even a picture would do. Enjoy these video collections.

Did you see the writings on the wall?

Window cleaning has never been more difficult.

World’s Smallest Hotel Coming in London

February 28, 2010 · Filed Under Attractions, Europe, Hotels · 1 Comment

Forget fancy large hotels with hundreds of visitors, the Visit London says. This is a chance to live in the world’s tiniest hotel ever, only 29ft by 7ft airstream caravan that moves between famous London landmarks. The hotel providers a dedicated concierge service, check-in desk, room service, flat screen TV, and a double bed.

While it’s nice to wake up in a new place every morning, I’m not sure if I’d be comfortable with a moving bed, especially when you’re fighting sleep-disorder. But it is an experience anyways that is opening this month. click here for more details.

Try attending soccer games on your next trip

December 10, 2009 · Filed Under Attractions · Comment

During my last business trip to Amsterdam, I tried something different for a change. I looked up the upcoming Dutch league soccer matches, and to my delight, it was the big match between Ajax and Feyenoord. This is one of four high-risk Ajax matches, and what that basically means is ten times the excitement, if things go well. And lucky me, the match was just the next day after my conference, that all I had to do now was to get a ticket.

Now the problem with top soccer games is tickets are usually expensive, and hard to get. On my first day in Amsterdam, I took a tour around the Ajax Amsterdam ArenA, where they would take you around the stadium, explain about the facilities and history of it, and you get to walk into the press conference room, and set on the very same chair top Ajax players have been in. It was a quite joy.

Ajax-Amsterdam-ArenA

The let down however was when I knew only season ticket holders are allowed to get a ticket for the big match. Now when you find yourself out of luck getting tickets directly from the club, there are other places to look for. Good amount of people end up selling their ticket online (for a higher margin ofcourse), and you can usually find the ticket you’re looking for. One such site is Sports Events 365, where people offer their tickets usually for a profit margin.

The experience for me turned out to be the highlight of my trip, especially with the thrashing 5-1 victory of the home team. I would really advise anyone (not just soccer fans) to try it out. It’s a bit costly yes, but it’s once in a while thing, and would give a memory that lasts.

Guidelines:

  1. Find the match you want: Start by looking at the soccer schedule from places like Soccerway or Koora.com. Or you can even use Sports Event 365, as they usually highlight the big games. Look for big games, rival matches, or decisive ones. Don’t just go to any ordinary game.
  2. Find your flight ticket (if you haven’t already). Dohop is a favorite place to start for me.
  3. Find your hotel. You can use our hotel price comparison search service for this, or any other that you might prefer. Just pay attention to how far you are from your match.
  4. Find your game ticket: You should try first booking from the official team site, or official league/cup site. If that doesn’t work, you’re off to find people selling their tickets at sites like Sports Events 365. Take care of the seat location. Some places are quite breathtaking, others aren’t worth your time and money. Luckily Sports Events usually tries to give you the seat location in a visual way. No guarantees though. It all depends on the seller’s provided info.
  5. Do a bit of research: You don’t wanna go to a match without knowing what the hell is going on. It’s more enjoyable of you know a bit about where the team stands, who are his top players, and what does this match mean to him.
  6. Get your self the Home Jersey: Don’t feel cheap about it. For one, you will meld and feel the joy of cheering up for the home team, and two, it’s also your insurance policy shall things get out of control. Fans would see you on their side rather than an intruder. I mean let’s face it, sometimes fans go mad :) .

This was the last goal I recorded from the match.

Try the Cable Car in Singapore

April 29, 2009 · Filed Under Asia, Attractions, transportation · 1 Comment

While it may not be a final destination for many, it is a hot staying spot for people traveling from and to places like Australia. If Singapore is a stop for you, you may want to give it a couple of days or so, and see what beauty it has to offer. One of the attractions they say you shouldn’t miss there is the Cable Car between Mt. Faber and Santosa.

The news around it is that these cable cars will be put to retirement later this year, as Mount Faber Leisure Group is planning to replace it with 68 new cable cars only to be known as Jewel rides, one of which will be made for VIP from Austrian Swarovski crystals, and will be equipped with a DVD player, fridge, and a high-end Bose system. Total cost estimate of the project is $36 millions, with a target customer attraction of 1.7 million riders.

Take a tour in the Natural Galapagos Islands

April 13, 2009 · Filed Under Attractions, South-America · 7 Comments

The Galapagos Islands of Ecuador is a collection of distributed volcanic islands, that is famous for it’s natural wildlife. The Islands have grown however by 40-folds over 50 years in population to reach 40,000. Still, this is one of the few magnificent places still left on this planet, where you can examine the wildlife and nature away from civilization. These islands have been one of the major locations Charles Darwin visited in his 5 year journey, and it has also been featured in the Master and Commander movie as an island of nature.

You can read more about the Galapagos Islands on Wikipedia and WikiTravel, and for vacations and tours there, Galapagos.com is your next stop. For hotels in Galapagos Islands, we have a few hotels to offer in Isla Santa Cruz.
