Follow volcano updates and flight status with DoHop.com

This is a very nice service from DoHop.com to follow the volcano updates and the flight status around the world. See where flights are operating, minimally operating, only pass by flights allowed, or where they are completely blocked. Share it with others. You never know who might be desperately needing it.

What happens to unclaimed luggage?

After a period of search, those unclaimed luggage at the airport gets auctioned, and someone has developed a bizarre hobby of buying and photoing them as something he says less odd than stamp collection. The guy then thought of creating a website he called IsThisYourLuggage.com to help find the real owners of the unclaimed luggage, showing photos of the luggage and all it’s inside content. Who would want to go really to claim his publicly disclosed missing underwear? Unless there’s something else more fancy in his bag.

iStopOver – Save By Renting House Space

Rather than leasing hotels or apartments, iStopOver.com gives you the traveler a way to rent a space in people’s houses and apartments, at an average much better rate. House owners could also make extra money from their unused extra space by listing and renting it. While this may seem like a cheap way to spend the vacation, the look of some of the house listings are quite amazing, with various photos and a map location as well. Heck, some even list Wifi and free long distance calls (however they can manage to do that). The site seems still a bit new, so it’s low on the amount of listings and more on the reviews. As it grows further, you can even find reviews for the places before renting them, or you can contribute your own.

MonogramsTravel arranges your whole trip

I’ve always been disappointed with travel agencies locally for their lack of enthusiasm and creativity. They want you to drive them every step of the way, telling them exactly what you want, and they’ll book it. Booking can be made directly. Travel agency I believe should separate it self from the rest by helping the customer with advise and suggestions, where to to go, what’s a good hotel for my need, transportation, and what places to visit. That’s what will make me come back.
Monograms seems to be promising just that, and perhaps a bit more. They would commit to help you decide where to go, arrange for your flight, stay, transportation and visit to the tourist attractions, and sometimes even VIP access. I hope the site delivers to it’s promise in real world. Who knows, I may end up giving them a shot someday. Be sure to check their brief video on the main page.

airfarewatchdog.com for hot airfare offers

Airfarewatchdog is a popular site seeking and posting about the best airfare prices, discounts, and offers. The site has a focused area of interest, US local and international airfares, which while makes it more limited, probably gives it better value for US air travelers. The site sees it self different from others by focusing on “quality over quantity“.

90DI Indian Travel Search Engine

For peopling traveling to India, and people living there and looking for inside travel deals, 90DI is an Indian travel search engine that aggregates the information from all the Indian Airlines and Railways. The site even combines mix of train and flight routes if necessary, and a map view to assist you in understanding the way of the trip.
Another cool thing is how the search engine tries to understand the human language, so you could try something like this for example: “from bangalore to mumbai on 18 March 2009 by train”

Share Your Trip, Connect With Travellers – TripSay.com
TripSay is a virtual place for travelers to share their travel plans, connect with their traveling friends, and share tips. Imagine your self planning a trip to Istanbul, only to find that your friend is already having a similra plan. You could, if not for the whole journey, plan a shared activity on a specific day, meet a friend outside, and share more useful tips together as well.

The site is built from users interest, favorite places, past travel information and such. While I’ve had personal problems with the site using Chrome browser (if that’s related), the site does seem a bit fun and with a little work can become much more useful.
ReadWriteWeb has more insight about the site.
